Buhaus: A Unique and Stylish Bird House

A Personality-Infused, Custom-Made Design by Bogdan Moga

Buhaus is a bird house that combines functionality and aesthetics, providing a safe haven for a small owl while serving as a decorative object. Designed by Bogdan Moga, this unique creation bridges the gap between the needs of a pet owl and the artistic vision of its owners.

Buhaus was inspired by the idea of an owl within an owl, with its shape and features carefully designed to cater to the needs of the bird. The mouth opening resembles a tree burrow, providing a familiar and comfortable environment for the owl. The wooden bar serves as a landing place for the bird, mimicking a branch in nature. The eyes, a signature element of the owl, are infused with a human feel, adding a touch of personality to the design.

What sets Buhaus apart from other bird houses is its custom-made nature. It is specifically designed for the small owl that roams freely in its owners' apartment. The materials used, such as papier mache, wood, and water-based paints, are non-toxic and closely resemble the bird's natural burrow. The resulting surface is uneven and textured, adding to the charm and uniqueness of the design.

Buhaus can be used both as an indoor decorative object and as a functional bird house. Its flat back allows for easy and stable wall hanging, making it suitable for any indoor space. As a decorative object, it can be used to house special objects or colorful toy birds, or even as a scarf or tie hanger. Outdoors, it provides a safe place for birds to land, take shelter, and use as a nesting burrow.

The creation of Buhaus was not without its challenges. The designer had to find a balance between the needs of the bird and the aesthetic preferences of the owners, who are artistically gifted themselves. The result is a design that appeals to both bird and man, combining functionality with artistic flair.

Buhaus was completed in May 2014 after two months of design and construction work in Bucharest, Romania. It has received recognition for its ingenuity and creativity, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category in 2015. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
